Gate Valve

Gate valves are also called shut-off valves or sluice valves and are manually controlled valves for on/off flow control by rotating a hand wheel to lift or lower a wedge (also called disc) in the (non-obstruction) flow path. Due to their simple design, they are reliable and require little maintenance. Brass and stainless steel body materials are common as these two options allow for implementations in a wide array of applications. Due to gate valves requiring multiple turns of the hand wheel it closes/opens slow enough to prevent against a water hammer.
